We had stopped going there as we transitioned to a plant based diet as many or all of the entrees were meat based. Well, recently, I have gotten to know Timmi, Shari's daughter. She is so full of energy about local organic healthy food and we are teaming up to do great things together. Timmi and I got talking about class ideas and she told me all about their organic gardens, hoop houses, local farm vendors, and more veggie options on the menu. She said any time we wanted vegan food, just call them and they would make it happen.
A few weeks ago was our 6 month anniversary (awww, still newlyweds!). Simon called Shari's a few days ahead to make a reservation and told them his wife was vegan and he was vegetarian. They assured him they would have some great options for us.
When we arrived, our server had a special 'menu' for the Parsleys. They brought us a fresh fruit with balsamic glaze amuse-bouche. Our server told us which appetizers were veggie and how they could be veganized. They offered 2 vegan entrees developed just for us. One was a sweet potato & quinoa stuffed portobello mushroom, the other was fresh zucchini 'pasta' with a seasoned marinara sauce. We decided to try both. I ordered the stuffed portobello and Simon ordered the zucchini pasta. They were both delicious, 100% vegan, and reasonably priced.
The wine selection there is amazing and really reasonably priced as well. Timmi helped us search for a special Chardonnay. She is a great sommelier, knowledgeable of everything on the menu and even some bottles not on the menu. I had a bit of sorbet for dessert and Simon enjoyed the creme brulee if I remember properly. What a delicious vegan fine dining experience, only 15 minutes from our house.
We plan to do this much more often, the prices were really quite reasonable. We also plan to stop by just for drinks and appetizers, they do have a bar area with seating. I love learning about more vegan options in our area. We had been driving to Bay City to have dinner at Heather's, which is delicious. Shari's is closer and they serve drinks, so great for a weekend night out.
Check it out, just be sure to call ahead if you would like vegan options, they are happy to help. 989.662.6621
I mentioned Timmi and I working together on classes. I am happy to announce that I will be teaching a 2-part Eating To Live series at Shari's in October. Saturdays, October 11th and 25th, classes from Noon - 3pm, both include food prepared by the wonderful chefs at Shari's with fresh local organic ingredients. Hey, it's almost the weekend...time to book a great vegan dinner at Shari's!
