I let myself recover from that workout. I was a bit sore, yes, but overall I felt surprisingly good. So I dug out my old FIRM workout DVDs and put together a plan. I have a set of FIRM DVDs called The FIRM Express Get Thin in 30. I knew when I was ready I would start with these workouts. Each workout is only 20 minutes and you do 3 workouts per week. That is a reasonable starting point for me. It gets all of my muscles moving and these workouts include high intensity 'bursts'. The bursts combined with the cardio and sculpting are designed to help you build muscle and burn calories long after your workout.
I can certainly use some muscle building as everything around my right shoulder is still quite weak. My shoulder is healed, I don't need to worry about damaging anything. I have about 90% of my range of motion back. My physical therapist gave me the green light to work out as long as I am not living heavy weights overhead. I have to modify a LOT with these workout videos - don't think I am doing exactly everything the instructors do. This morning when she dropped to the floor for pushups and tricep pushups, I did some pushups on a wall and did standing tricep work with a 2 pound weight. It's a start...
I will let you know how I feel after my first few weeks of regular workouts. The weather is improving as well, so yesterday I went for a bike ride with our dog for the first time since surgery. It is great to be more active and I think it will actually help my shoulder finish the healing process. It won't hurt to firm everything up before bathing suit season either.
Have any of you started a Spring exercise routine? Getting outside more? Hopefully you are moving a bit more too. Exercise helps with almost all health and weight loss goals.
